Papahana Kuaola: December 15, 2014
In December, we had the privilege of working with Kīhei Nahale-a and the Papahana Kuaola ‘ohana. The Ho‘opili Program ran a one-day workshop for staff at Papahana using our Makahiki unit lessons.
One lesson we shared with the staff uses a common Makahiki game, Moa Pahe‘e. The Makahiki unit focuses heavily on physics concepts and formulas. Using the formula, “Mass X Acceleration= Force”, and various shaped and weighted darts, the staff found out how to find the total force needed to propel each dart. Also involved with this lesson was the use of various ground surfaces to find factors which will help or hinder each dart slid!
