Ke Kaʻa ʻEnehana
Overview
“Ke Ka‘a ‘Enehana” is a STEAM Mobile program that aims to provide integrated culture-based Science, Technology, Engineering, Hawaiian Arts, and Math (STEAM) learning experiences. “Ke Kaʻa ʻEnehana” describes the mechanism with which we look to serve our Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi island sites with our “technical vehicle” to provide educational programming.
The program is geared toward rural and remote Native Hawaiian youth to address educational service, academic learning loss, and prepare middle school students for academics in high school and beyond. All Native Hawaiian culture-based curriculum is developed by Mālama ‘Āina Foundation’s curriculum team to align with the Next Generation Science and Common Core state standards for grades K-12.
Activities and lessons will be facilitated by the Ke Ka‘a ‘Enehana staff in an outdoor setting. If a site is also serviced by Mālama ‘Āina Foundation’s Māla Kūpono program, there are activities available that incorporate lessons relative to the farm boxes.
Goals
Incorporate Earth Space science, Physical Science, Life Science, and Engineering design.
Encompass aspects of Kilo, Uka and Kai, Māla, and Helu Pō Mahina.
Provide culture-based STEAM learning experiences to rural and remote Native Hawaiian Youth.
