Kalo Fest, Waipā Kaua‘i: December 7, 2014
On December 7th, two Ho‘opili Program team members travelled to Kaua‘I for the 5th annual Kalo Fest at Waipā. Kalo Fest is a day long community festival at the Halulu Fish Pond, featuring live music, Makahiki games, keiki activities and of course Kalo! We were fortunate to contribute to the fest with a few educational games of our own!
For Kalo Fest we pulled an activity from our Lo‘I unit, using renewable resources to create wind turbine blades, i.e., used water bottles, takeout containers and cups. Then we connect them to a voltmeter and see how much of the wind we can actually harness!
