Kanu I ka Pono Makahiki: December 23, 2014
This holiday season has been a busy one for the Ho‘opili Staff! On December 23, Kumu Melissa and Kumu Adam were able to take part in the Kanu I Ka Pono School Makahiki festivities, on the beautiful island of Kaua‘i. Kanu I Ka Pono is a charter school that the Ho‘opili Program works with throughout the year. So it was a great opportunity for the program to meet some of the haumānaʻs makua. We were in charge of the moa pahe‘e rotation working with over 180 of the students at Kanu I Ka Pono in all grade levels!
Before the Makahiki got started Kumu Melissa gave a quick scientific explanation of force and physics, teaching the haumāna how to slide their moa pahe‘e, throw their ‘ihe and survive in a haka moa match!
