Kualapu‘u Charter School 3/19-20/15

On March 19th and 20th the Ho‘opili Program went to Moloka‘i Island to carry out our new wa‘a lessons with Kualapu‘u Charter School. We were able to continue our work with Keawanui Loko I‘a to do our lessons at their site. It was a beautiful and hot 2 days out at the fishpond. We did fish dissections under the hale, underwater scopes in the spring pond and plankton tows in the loko i‘a. With the low tides in the fishpond those days, we were unable to use the pontoons outboard motor. Instead, Uncle Hano pulled us through the loko i‘a and let the kids explore different areas of Keawanui. As they were being towed along, the keiki let their tows out and collected samples. Due to the various springs flowing into the loko i‘a, there was quite a bit of plankton in the shallows of the pond. This made for great microscope samples for the haumāna. It was a fun week with the kids from Kualapu‘u and we canʻt wait for our next delivery session in April!
