Hakipu‘u Learning Center - January 14th and 21st 2015

Our first delivery of the year was with the Hakipu‘u Learning Center! Partnering with Kānehūnāmoku Voyaging Academy, we were able to take the haumāna out into Kāneʻohe bay for lessons on a wa‘a kaulua. In our new wa‘a unit curriculum includes fish dissections, mini-wa‘a construction, building and sailing plankton tows, and also investigating the samples taken from the haumānaʻs plankton tows.

This unit has been quite popular with the keiki and the wa‘a rides makes it even more exciting. Being able to have a real wa‘a kaulua is an excellent resource for the Ho‘opili Program and we are grateful to work with Kānehūnāmoku Voyaging Academy and Hakipu‘u Learning Center.
