Teacher Workshop on Unit 3 - Waʻa - Tuesday, Jun3 5, 2012

This past weekend of June 3rd the Mālama ʻĀina Team delivered a memorable waʻa experience for Hālau Lōkahi educator Darriene Dey. Participation in the third leg of the HCSA (Hawaiian Canoe Sailing Association) race series began with a community service day on Saturday the 2nd where teams offered canoe rides to the willing guests and spectators who were visiting the Kapalua shores. The team introduced Unit 3 and the interconnection of science, math, and Hawaiian culture pertaining to the canoe. The race kicked off on Sunday morning as we set sail from the shores of Maui headed across the Pailolo channel to the quiet harbor of Kaunakakai, Molokai. Among the crew were Malama Aina staff ; Chad Durkin, Majda Leroy, Austin Kino , paddler Brian McNamara, Captain Bruce Black, and Hālau Lōkahi educator Darriene Dey.
