April 16-17 Kualapu‘u Loko I‘a
On April 16th and 17th we met with our Moloka‘i ‘ohana, Kualapu‘u Charter School for their final delivery of the 2014-2015 school year. Our loko i‘a delivery included engineering concepts and standards. The lessons had our students building multiple structures following the engineering process, which included brainstorming with their groups, drawing plans and carrying out the building while working with limited materials and resources in the surrounding area and limited amounts of cordage to bind their structures together.
It’s always a great time with the kumu and haumāna of Ho‘opili. We will look forward to seeing some of our students for the 2015-2016 school year. For those graduating on to their next school, we wish them good luck and best wishes!
Along with our engineering and building lessons, the haumāna got to learn how to throw net with some of the uncles at Ka Honua Momona. Uncles Merv and Lyndon helped the kids learn the proper techniques of throwing net. The kids had a blast learning from the uncles!
Thank you to Ka Honua Momona for allowing us to do our last lesson with Kualapu‘u Charter at their site. It is a great privilege to be able to partner with foundations like theirs in our effort to educate keiki o ka ‘āina. A big mahalo to nā haumāna and nā kumu of Kualapu‘u Charter School for a fun and successful year! We look forward to seeing you in our upcoming 2015-2016 school year!
